2 batteries are of size "C" also known as MN1400 or LR14

and 1 battery of size "AA".

Most of the clock appears to be made of metal, except all the cogs are actually silver plastic (but it is hard to see that they are plastic).

The largest cog is metal.

(the one that goes round the whole clock).

The hands appear to be thin metal.

The front of the clock is a circular glass plate,

which means that the side of the clock is open.
